The Three Steps to getting married in Hawaii:
Apply for the Hawaii marriage license online,
Make an appointment with a marriage license agent on Maui, who will verify your identity and issue your actual paper marriage license,
Bring your marriage license to your ceremony.
Step One - Apply Online for your Marriage License
Couples need to obtain a Hawaii marriage license prior to their wedding and bring it with them to the ceremony. This license costs $65 and is payable on the Hawaii State website by credit card. Please fill in the marriage license application ONLINE prior to your Maui license agent appointment, and bring the License Locator ID to the agent appointment (it's the 8 digit confirmation number you receive after your online application). Most people complete the online application a month or two before their wedding – mark your calendar!
How to apply for a wedding license:
The Bride and Groom apply together for their wedding license online. Here is the direct link to the State of Hawaii website: https://emrs.ehawaii.gov/emrs/public/home.html
Once online, click on the "Applicants" tab and select "Apply License" and fill in the form for either a marriage (traditional marriage) or for a civil union, pay the fee and write down the Locator ID number generated by the website, as this will be used by the Maui wedding license agent to locate your file.
Step Two - Appointment with a Marriage License Agent
You need to make an appointment with a Maui marriage license agent prior to your wedding so the agent can verify your identities and issue the actual paper marriage license. Bring this license with you to the wedding ceremony. Both of you need to go together to the license appointment, and you need to bring a picture ID (driver’s license or military ID) or your Passport as a form of identification. No birth certificate is necessary if you are over the age of 19 and no divorce papers are needed if your divorce was final for longer than 30 days. If you have been divorced less than 30 days prior to applying for a new wedding license, you will need to bring printed, certified divorce documentation. No witnesses are required in the State of Hawaii, nor are there any waiting periods. You can get married the same day your marriage license is issued. Once the Maui license agent has issued your license, it is valid for 30 days anywhere in the State of Hawaii – which means you must get married within 30 days or the license will expire.

Your official legal marriage certificate will be mailed to you directly from the State of Hawaii. This typically takes 30 - 60 days.
